About Trivia Night
A single-device host app for trivia night: the TV shows the board, and the host runs everything from one screen.
- Setup: name your teams — fun names are suggested automatically, so just edit, add, or remove — and pick a mode.
- Jeopardy: click a point cell to open the question. Click a team to mark them green (correct) or red (wrong) — click a marked team again to change or clear it; the line under the teams shows what Done will bank. Reveal shows the answer; Done banks the points.
- Trivia: click a category name to start that round — the point cells are not clickable. Mark a team green when they answer; click again to clear; the line under the teams shows what Next will bank. Reveal shows the answer; Next moves on. The tally at the end shows each team's points from the category and their new total.
- Clips and the finish: each question's top line shows its category and points; one with a clip has a big Play clip button there (OK on a remote plays it). After Done, +/− badges on the scoreboard show who just gained or lost. When the last question is played, the scoreboard becomes Final scores — ranked, with the winner or a tie named.
- On the TV: easiest is to mirror the Mac's screen (everything works, including Load folder and your real clips). The TV's own browser can open the live link (shipped board only) — test it before the night. A saved game belongs to the address it was played on, so always open the same one.
- No mouse? A TV remote's D-pad (or Tab / Shift-Tab) moves between cells, categories and buttons; OK (Enter / Space) presses.
- Oops? "Back to board" (or browser Back) drops that question's marks and keeps the cell and scores. "Undo last question" under the board takes back the last banked question (one only; it asks first) and reopens it. The game saves as you play: after a reload, press Resume game (folder board: Load folder first, same folder). Reloaded? Press Resume game, not Start.
- Mid-game: on Setup, renames and mode switches keep the game; adding or removing a team starts fresh. That and Reset game (clears scores and played cells) ask first; Back to board drops Setup edits.
-
Your own games: the shipped board is one text
file —
questions.yaml. Load folder plays your own folder (questions.yaml+audio/+images/) and asks first mid-game; Create new scaffolds one (Chrome or Edge): name it, then pick a folder inside Documents (not Documents itself) and allow editing when Chrome asks. Team names carry over. Problems name the file and the round, question or line, and say what to type (text with a colon needs quotes); "Back to setup" keeps your game.
