S20 · Web search from the phone

Situation. I ask Open WebUI about something recent.

What happens. It searches through a self-hosted SearXNG and answers with sources. Queries go to search engines, never to an AI company. The small model writes the queries, as it writes chat titles and tags, with its thinking off, so a search starts without a long wait; the chat’s own answer keeps its thinking (Dan’s decision, 2026-09-28).

What I see. Cited answers.

How to override. Turn web search off per chat.

Status: verified, 2026-09-28 (Phase 1, Task 14): on the phone, a question about something recent was searched through SearXNG and answered with its sources.
